The government has unveiled "GeoPlatform" a new online GIS for visualizing the spill:
http://www.geoplatform.gov/gulfresponse/
Beyond NOAA data, the site includes data from DHS, USCG, USFWS, EPA, NASA, USGS and the Gulf states . Agencies contribute data through the response data sharing mechanism within the command posts. This includes posting geospatial data on a common server, allowing access and use for multiple spatial platforms.

- Originally from Sheepshead Bay NY, I was drawn to fishing at an early age and had my captain's license before I was twenty years old. I stopped fishing in the mid-90's to attend Penn State for a BS in Meteorology and later earned an MS in Environmental Science and Policy from Johns Hopkins. I currently work as a programmer for a global weather/climate modeling effort, but my eyes are always toward the sea.
